MRI = Maxine's Running Interrupted
Since my knee continues to give me problems when I run, I saw an orthopedic doctor and today got in for an MRI. Since I'm claustrophobic (thanks to my time living in Washington), fortunately there is a place in Prescott that does "open MRI" where the sides are open so I'm not suffocating in a tube. As it was, I was very grateful for my height because my head didn't have to go inside/under the machine to keep my knee at the center of the machine. I kept my eyes closed anyway because I still didn't like the idea of this thing on top of me. When they called to confirm my appointment, they told me I could bring a CD and they'd play it for me during the MRI. I'm so glad I did that because it was very helpful to keep my mind off all the clicks, clacks, hums and sounds that literally sounded like gunfire coming from the machine. Now I should have enjoyed the opportunity to lie down during the day without a child or two saying, "Mommy! You can't lie down!" and listening to a whole 40 minutes of a CD that didn't feature a singing cucumber and tomato. But, alas, I still kept wishing for the time to be up so I could get out from under that machine! I head back to the doctor for results next week. Needless to say, my hopes for a half-marathon appearance are gone. Even if there is a way for me to get back into long-distance running, I am way behind on the training schedule now.

I have a friend here who ran a half marathon in September. She said her goal was to run it under two hours. She said her right hip gave her such pain she ended up walking/running part of it but still finished at two minutes over two hours. She was told that the knees/hips can give problems if you try to train to hard too fast. There's always next year?!
She walked some of it and still finished in just over two hours? She must have sprinted when she wasn't walking!
